The VISTA project is a government-backed initiative designed to test and demonstrate the potential that 5G broadcast technology has to deliver new and exciting digital experiences for fans at live events. By demonstrating proof of concept, VISTA will highlight potential commercial opportunities that these could offer in the future.
VISTA (Video in Stadia Technical Architecture) uses 5G broadcast technology to deliver new and enhanced viewing experiences direct to fans mobile devices e.g., multi-angle views of the action; views from areas that cannot be seen or behind the scenes; and additional information about the event.
The technology overcomes the problem of a lack of bandwidth at live events by delivering the content from a single source to many users, rather than one to one, meaning that quality of service is maintained regardless of the number of users.
The project runs until the end of March 2022 and will culminate in a showcase of the new 5G broadcast technology at a live sporting event, where fans will be able to get closer to the action than ever before.
